High School Reunion, Meeting Old Friends
Well, you never know what will happen when you go to websites like classmates.com and facebook. Turns out that Don, with whom I went to high school actually lives nearby in California. Considering that we went to high school in Wisconsin, this is a long way from the heartland of the great midwest.
So there was this art and wine festival in a town not far away and we decided to meet. Don and his wife Carol took a ferry over and I met them. I knew him right away, and Carol was great. They are a perfect pair. We enjoyed wandering around the art festival. My friend Cara had a booth there and we stopped and Carol admired her art and we chatted and passed the time and it was all easy and the day was balmy and beautiful. We were right on the San Francisco Bay and took some pictures looking over the water. What a treat.
Then we had a long lunch and caught up on the past, I don't know how many years. Geez, I guess at one point we decided it must be 39 years. There was alot of water under those bridges, I can tell you. There were job changes and cross country travel for both of us. How did we get out here? Why do we stay? How often do we go back to visit Wisconsin? We talked easily and shared some good wine and a fine meal and Carol, also from Wisconsin did admit there is nothing like a Friday fish fry. I agreed.
It was a great visit and the best part was finding out how life had unfolded for a fellow midwesterner. Lots of stories, lots of travels, some bumps along the way, but overall a good trip.
